A whole new experience in sustainability management
Team RED offers intuitive insight into how energy is used and how this system can be improved. This is done through the use of a large interactive dashboard, displayed on a touchscreen monitor. On this dashboard information about the consumption of each of the buildings, as well as information on the electricity grid can be easily analyzed. Then, using tokens, the user can simulate the placement of different energy assets (e.g. solar panels, storage batteries, etc). Their impacts will be calculated by the data model and be presented to the user in an intuitive and user-friendly manner. To do this the map provides metrics such as CO₂ emissions saved, total cost, payback time and return on investment.
Accelerate the energy transition through an innovation guiding platform
The energy transition is an ever-complex issue that burdens the current generations. Over time the emphasis on the issues regarding sustainability and climate change has grown, leading to increasing attention and investment. However, renewable sources induce issues regarding a mismatch in supply and demand due to their dependence on external factors such as wind, water, or sunlight. In addition, the decision-making process on the implementation of new energy assets involves many stakeholders, each with different levels of knowledge and understanding. This can significantly slow down or even halt action.
WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO
Team RED is a team of students from the Technical University of Eindhoven. We want to allow for experimentation with the placement of technologies (such as solar panels and storage batteries) and work to find an optimal scenario for the campus. We believe that by aligning all the different stakeholders around a platform, that is understandable and accessible, we will be able to facilitate a better discussion, and in doing so accelerate the path to implementation. We do this by means of an interactive map that gives insights into the energy systems of campuses, industrial parks, or residential regions; Starting with the TUe
The insights of the innovation guiding platform will help to allow parties involved in energy management to make better-informed decisions. The interactive map allows for quick simulations that provide instant results on the effects that new technologies will have on the system. With these simulations we will provide the users with metrics such as investment costs, expected returns, as well as energy and CO₂ savings.
MEET THE TEAM
Team RED boasts a multidisciplinary team of 13 dedicated members from 8 different study backgrounds. The team started out of the Honors Academy of the TU Eindhoven, as a collaboration between students from the Energy Transition, and Smart Cities track. The team has since expanded outside of the honors program, and are registered as an Innovation Space team. This has helped us source extra team members and receive additional opportunities, and guidance.
If you are interested in learning more about the team or potentially becoming our newest member, head over to the contact section to get in touch!
MEET OUR PARTNERS
Since this year Team RED has been involved in partnership under the name of eXentr.
This is a collaboration between the TU/e, Brainport Development, Brabantse Ontwikkelingsmaatschappij, Eneco, Enpuls and supported by Provincie Noord-Brabant.
The map Team RED currently is developing for the TU/e campus is made possible through support from the Dienst Huisvesting and the Atlas Project.
Involvement in this project has made funding available to us that allows us to purchase all of the necessary components.
For this reason, the final product will be delivered to Atlas where it will be displayed and made available to be used.
